For those erudite and indie

I fell in love with Paris in a messy way. The meeting was brief and glorious. I felt giddy with happiness and I’m definitely going to go back there to find out how the romance develops. We weren’t there for long but we managed to explore quite a great deal. One of the lovely places we found was a little English bookstore (one of the few in Paris) called Shakespeare & Company in the Latin Quarter.

It is a tiny rambling building packed to the rafters with the most amazing second hand books in every genre. Skinny panted bohemian looking teenagers sit outside smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. We stared at their indie hairstyles and cultured ways- it really was a hot spot for the young intelligentsia. I wish I had taken a picture. Instead here are some old photo’s I found of the place and its owner, his name is George Whitman. (Photo credits: Shakespeare and Company Official Website)
