Conrad Botes

Hello everyone. Sorry for my absence, work is really busy of late. Hopefully things will alleviate soon. You can check out my tumblr for more frequent updates.

Today, I want to share the work of South African artist Conrad Botes. He has been a favourite of mine since I came across his work in university. His new exhibition, titled The Temptation to Exist, is opening on the 8th of September at STEVENSON in Cape Town.

“In these head-and-shoulders images, Botes overlays the image of his face with his characteristic scrawl of anarchic figures running amok. Rather than tattoos, he describes these figures as representations of the ideology and hatred that inevitably contaminate the human condition.

I hope it comes to Johannesburg. Here is a sneak peek:
