Alexander Deineka

Aleksander Aleksandrovich Deineka (1899-1969) was a Soviet Russian painter, graphic designer and sculptor. He is regarded as one of the most important Russian modernist figurative painters of the early 20th century.

“Deineka’s work, although figurative, is strikingly modernist in style with its large flattened areas of bright colors. Trained not as a painter but as a graphic artist, he also produced popular posters with collectivist themes, glorifying work and the future of the Soviet Union”

His paintings remind me of Edward Hopper – one of my favourite painters.

Those pictures are simply stunning… although their real-socialist taste is a bit too strong for comfort in my case, I not only love the simple in them but also cannot help being sentimental about the content and the style. My childhood was full of such images but those are exquisite. Thanks for introducing them to me. Cheers!
