Maryam Şahinyan

Maryam Şahinyan is credited as being the first female studio photographer in Turkey. She came into the profession out of necessity when financial difficulties forced her to assist her father at the Galatasaray Photography Studio in Istanbul. She went on to manage the studio and take photographs herself. At the time of her death in 1996, she had created an archive of over 200,000 images.
